Demonstrators took to the Oregon State Capital State Park to hold a “War on Racism” rally to “highlight the continued blatant inadequate actions of the Salem Police Department and the Oregon State Police” on Saturday, July 11.

The event was hosted by Greg Simpson Jr., Julianne Ashley Jackson, and Greggery V Peterson Sr.

During the rally, William Jones lead with a motivational speech and kneeling, asking the young generations for their help and guidance:

I know I am older, but that doesn’t mean I am smarter. I may have more experience, but it doesn’t mean I am smarter…I get that you young generation are angry, and I get that you young generation are mad because you think us old cats don’t understand you. I understand you. I understand that ya’ll are going through a rough time. I understand that ya’ll need a shoulder to lean on too…come lean on mine and let me listen to do, and let’s help each other form an old man to a young man, from an old man to a young woman, I can help you, let me help

William Jones

“This is a time where you have to be strong mentally, [and] this is a time where you can’t be angry but you have to be smart. You got to learn how to use the tools that you have, because if you know how to use your tools this would be a whole different world right now.”

Demonstrators from “Back the Blue” rally marched down State St. after speaking at the Oregon Capital.

The event was also met with opposition from Joey Nations and other conservative groups with their own “Back the Blue” rally.

What they are really trying to do, or planning on doing, is replacing the police with leftist thought patrol, with leftist ability to creep into every part of your life because now they are enforcing the laws. They want to get rid of the police as we know it and replace it with leftist ideology and enforcement

Joey Nations

The event ended on a positive note, aside from the one provocateur who managed to rile everyone up, everything began to settle down with a small group of the demonstrators able to have a peaceful dialogue with each other.
